Dolphins Clinch Postseason Berth with Style
After several rain-delays, the Beach Channel Boys’ Tennis Team (7-1) finally hosted the John Adams Spartans (2-6) on April 16th, 2003. The Dolphins extended their three game winning streak to four with a 5-0 win. Soslan Dambegov, Third Singles for Beach Channel, continued his serving barrage with 20 Aces in a 10-1 victory. Timothy Ramchatesingh and Gabriel Martinez won by scores of 10-0, 10-0 in their respective singles matches.
After a week off, the team was back in action on Monday, April 28th for a long-awaited rematch against the undefeated Martin Van Buren Fighting VeeBees. In a well-played competition, the Dolphins defeated the Fighting VeeBees 3-2 on the road. The win secured a playoff spot for Beach Channel, and opened the possibility of a first place tie with Van Buren if both teams go undefeated in their upcoming matches. Jahvis Ferguson and Imran Kahn won in second doubles for the deciding match point with a score of 10-6. Van Buren dropped to 5-1 in the PSAL Queens B II Division with the loss.
Following their win, the Dolphins traveled to Forest Park to take on John Adams one last time this season. Timothy Ramchatesingh recorded 4 aces in his 10-0 First Singles win while Soslan Dambegov added 11 more aces to his PSAL-leading total of 93. Norbert Kosobudzki and Sebastian Stefaniak added to the 5-0 win with a 10-2 victory of their own in First Doubles.
The team looks to continue their six game winning streak on Thursday, May 1st at home against Springfield Gardens (2-4). The final match of the regular season will be played on Monday, May 5th at Campus Magnet High School (2-4).
