An unidentified Rockaway woman was raped and robbed after she was dragged into a compactor room at a building on Almeda Avenue in Arverne at 10:30 in the morning last Saturday, April 26.

According to police, the woman was exiting the building in which she lives when a man called out to her that there was a woman who needed help in a nearby building.

Police say that the man approached the woman, grabbed her by the hair and pulled her into the compactor room in her building.

"If you cooperate, it will end quickly," the man, described by police as a male Black, 20 to 25 years of age, approximately 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighing 250 pounds, reportedly told the woman.

At the time of the attacks, he was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and gray sweatpants.

The building's maintenance supervisor reportedly found the woman and called police.

Officers responding from the 101 Precinct in Far Rockaway established a crime scene and called in the special victims unit and the canine unit to assist in the search.

Vertical searches were conducted in a number of buildings in the housing complex with negative results.

The victim was taken to the Peninsula Hospital Center.

On Thursday, the police released a witness identification sketch of the rapist along with the fact that he is wanted for two other sexual crimes in the vicinity of Almeda Avenue, sexual abuse of a 22-year-old woman at 7:35 that morning and public lewdness towards a 25-year-old woman at 9:30 that same day.

Detectives from the Special Victims Unit and the 101 Precinct detective squad are investigating.

Anybody with information on the identity of the alleged rapist or his whereabouts can call the 101 Precinct Detective Squad at 718-868-3429 or Crimestoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
