Recruitment Open For Fifty Apprentices
The Joint Apprentice Committee for the Metal Lathers and Reinforcing Ironworkers, Local 46, will open recruitment on May 5 for 50 apprentices.
Applications will be available at the local, 1322 Third Avenue, New York City, 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday, from May 5 – May 16, or until 250 applications have been issued, whichever occurs first. Completed applications must be returned by certified mail, no later than May 16.
The union requires that applicants: be at least 18 years old, have a high school or general equivalency diploma, take an aptitude test, be physically able to do the work, pay a $15 application fee by money order, and take a drug test administered by the local after acceptance for the program.
A driver’s license is recommended, but not required.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
