PHC Honors Lopez, Diaz
Peninsula Hospital Center, in Far Rockaway, NY will be holding its Annual Spring Luncheon on Wednesday, May 7, 2003 at Russo’s on the Bay in Howard Beach, honoring two "Nurses of Distinction," Alfred Lopez, RN, of the Critical Care Unit in the Hospital Center, and Milagros Diaz, RN, of the Adult Day Care Center in Peninsula Center for Extended Care and Rehabilitation (PCECR).
"We are proud to honor our two nurses of distinction, as well as our entire nursing staff," commented Robert V. Levine, President and Chief Executive Officer at Peninsula Hospital Center. "They truly demonstrate our mission to provide the highest level of care."
The Nurse of Distinction Award is given to an extraordinary professional who clearly exhibits the three "Cs:" Competence, judged by on-job-expertise; Commitment, measured in dedication to self, patients, peers and the profession of nursing; and Connection, shown in the effective communication of the excellence of nursing to others.
Miliagros Diaz has been at PCECR since June 2000. She graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Hunter College in 1994. Prior to joining the PCECR nursing staff, she was an Administrative Nurse at the Services for the Aged in Jamiaca, Queens.
Alfred Lopez has been a member of the PHC nursing staff since 1991. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the San Juan Dedios College in the Phillipines in 1988, after which he became a staff nurse at the San Juan Dedios College.
The proceeds from the Annual Spring Luncheon, including ticket sales, raffles and donations, will all be used for renovating and modernizing patient areas throughout Peninsula Hospital Center and the Center for Extended Care and Rehabilitation.
Several prizes have been donated for the Spring Luncheon Raffle, including a theater/dinner package (courtesy of Siemens), a stereo system (courtesy of Alan Camhi, Condor Pest Control), a CD player (courtesy of Novartis Nutrition), a deluxe air conditioner (courtesy of Caucig Utilities, Inc.), a color television (courtesy of McKesson Empowering Healthcare), and much more. Winners will be announced at the luncheon.
