Broad Channel Parade Set For May 4
The Broad Channel Athletic Club is proud to announce our 4th Annual Jamaica Bay Little League Season. The Opening Day Parade and Ceremonies are on May 4th, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. All our children, parents & coaches are to start gathering at 12:30 p.m. at the 17th road park. We will then march down to the BCAC Memorial Field at 1st road. This year we dedicate the season to our Armed Forces.
This year the BCAC/JBLL has chose Danny Dady, owner of Breezy Point Lumber as the "Sponsor of the Year". Mr. Dady has been a very big supporter of the Athletic Club for many, many years. For the past four year, Breezy Point Lumber has sponsored one of the teams. He never hesitates when it comes to the children and his sponsorship is always the first one we receive. It is because of business owners like Mr. Dady that sports continue for our children and we greatly appreciate all his donations. Mr. Dady will be presented with the "Sponsor of the Year Award" at opening day ceremonies.
This year the club is under new management. Mr. Marty Feeney, after three years of running this organization has turned the presidency over to Mr. Joel Miele. Marty continues to assist the league as the Athletic Director. Marty has done a tremendous amount of work to get this little league on the map and the club and children could not thank him enough. Joel Miele has been a member of the BCAC for many years. He coached the kids to hockey championships, baseball and is the BCAC treasurer. He now takes on the task of JBLL President. The members of our community are truly lucky to have such great men that are able to give up so much of their time for all our children!!!
This year the parade committee did a wonderful job of organizing the little league parade & starting up the season they were: Joel Miele, Marty Feeney, Dawn McIntyre, Jill Zeller, Joanie Minihan, Margaret Wagner, John Hanning, John Bil, Debbie Lonnborg,Ricky Guttieri, Peter Ward, Billy Gill, Charlie Ledogar, & Jimmy Trudden. These people all worked very hard to make the field the best they could for our children to play on.
This year is a very special year for the BCAC/JBLL it is the first season of little league that the children own the field. The field belongs to the community and it will be our "Crown Jewel of the Island" a place where dreams do come true in Little League!!
We are very honored to once again have the wonderful sounds of the Beach Channel Marching Band. Mr. Matthew Gill will sing the National Anthem and our ceremonies will close with God Bless America sung by Gerdine Krohn. Our concession will be open so stop by for a soda-pop & a hot dog, bring a lounge chair and enjoy good friends, children’s laughter and a cool breeze off our lovely islands Jamaica Bay.
