Pick any year above and this same condition existed at Beach 35 Street and Edgemere Avenue.

Our camera is facing east toward Far Rockaway for this 1950’s view, and the police vehicle is headed for the freeway and Beach Channel Drive.

The photographer has his feet high and dry on the small, elevated plaza next to the Edgemere station’s cabstand. This flood is from melting snows and ice plugging street drains, and is nothing compared to the height of flooding during storms with high tides, especially the nor’easter of December 11, 1992. Remember that one? How could you forget?

The sign on the pole states that – "Just a drop in the basket will help keep New York clean." It should read – "Take home a bucket of water and help keep this intersection dry!"
