BCHS Honors Library Week
The students and staff of Beach Channel High School shared their love of reading at a Read Aloud Pro-gram on Thursday, April 10, 2003 in celebration of National Library Week.
Participants were asked to choose a selection from a favorite published book to read to the group. The choi-ce of literature was diverse; we hea-rd selections from: Brave New Girls, Honor Lost, Romeo and Juliet, Dead Men Don’t Talk, The Color of Water, The Catcher in the Rye, Lovely Bones, Oh, The Places You’ll Go, Dre-am Catcher, Crime and Punishment, The Bluest Eye, And Then There Were None, More Than Words, Brav-ing the Waves, Fallen Angels, Be-ware, Do Not Read This Poem.
Students and teachers played a part as peers in the Read Aloud. In addition to the audience, the presenters read in the following order: Tiara Howard, Kadianne Francis, Taariq Gould, Bibi Ramdihal, Phyllis Satchwell, Olivia Guzman, Betty Zapolsky, Mary Moskowitz, Tiffany Joiner, Joseph Young, Lisa Cummings, Alice Baumann, David Pecoraro, Sheila Murray, John Marcus, Erin Duffy.
The School’s Media Specialists, Betty Zapolsky and Mary Mosko-witz organized the event, assisted by Ethelle Akins the School Aide who works in the Library. Everyone en-joyed lovely refreshments, fruit, cheese and crackers, cookies and beverages. Everyone attending the event received a book as a gift for participating.
Zapolsky said, "This was the best Read Aloud we have had yet at the school. I am so pleased that we can provide this literacy program and that the students so obviously enjoy reading."
Moskowitz said, "We are so proud of our students and hope to provide more opportunities for them to share their readings with the rest of the school."
