Video Promotes Knowledge Of Religious Traditions

Video Promotes Knowledge Of Religious Traditions

The Rockaway Catholic Jewish Council and the Men’s Club of West End Temple team up again to offer an instructive video, "Jews and Christians – A Journey of Faith," at the Temple on May 6, starting promptly at 7:45 p.m.

The video treats the similarities and differences between Jews and Christians primarily from a doctrinal, theological, and spirituality point of view. Representatives from the various faith traditions have their particular insights.

Some of the themes discussed include: Prayer and Liturgy, the Bible, the celebration and meaning of various feasts, the relation between the Passover and the Eucharist, atonement, education for understanding, anti-Semitism (even unconsciously absorbed), and much more.

The side-by-side comparison of issues from the Jewish and Christian point of view is especially interesting. For Jews the video will enrich their knowledge of Judaism. For Christians, the video will deepen their appreciation of the roots of their religion.

For both Christians and Jews, it will promote understanding and respect. For both, it will answer questions never asked but always wondered about. For both, it will insist that Christians and Jews are on a journey of faith together.

The first part of the program will be shown on May 6 to allow for discussion time. Refreshments will be served after the presentation.

The West End Temple is on Beach 147 Street in Neponsit.
