PBA Hosts ‘10-13 Party’ For Injured Cop
A Signal 10-13 is a police radio call indicating that a police officer is in trouble. Police from all over the area traditionally quickly respond in force to a 10-13 call.
Now, the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association (PBA) the police union, is hosting a "10-13 Party" for Police Officer Kathleen Taggart, assigned to the 110 Precinct in Queens, who was seriously injured in a vehicle accident.
According to the PBA, Taggart has been in a brain rehabilitation facility and is undergoing extensive physical therapy. In addition, she has required full time care since her June,2001 accident, things her insurance no longer covers.
The party’s coordinators say that the lack of insurance for the complicated physical therapy and for the around-the-clock care has led to a great harship for the family. It is for that reason that the 10-13 party is being held.
The 10-13 party for Taggart will be held at the Elk’s Lodge, 82-10 Queens Boulevard in Elmhurst on Thursday, May 1 from 7 p.m. until 2 a.m. Admission is $20.
Donations in cash or items that can be raffled off at the party should be made to the 110 Precinct Club, c/o The Kathleen Taggart Fund, PO Box 650069, Fresh Meadows, New York, 11365.
The Emerald Society Pipes and Drums will perform at the event.
