Morris, Vega Honored By RDRC

Barbara J. Morris, the owner of West End Realty and East End Realty and the Reverend Jorge Vega are among those who will be honored at the Rockaway Development and Revitalization Corporation’s annual dinner.

Morris will be presented with the Rockaway Means Business Award at the Rockaway Development & Revitalization Corporation’s 17th Annual Tribute at Russo’s on the Bay, on Wednesday, May 14 Rev. Jorge L. Vega, Senior Pastor of Full Gospel Tabernacle, will be presented with the Joseph W. Stehn Community Service Award at the same event.

A native of the Rockaways, Morris grew up in Arverne. She has played a vital part in the "rebirth of her Rockaways." Helping many people to achieve the ultimate American dream of home ownership. After many successful years of business as West End Realty in Rockaway Park, Barbara decided to expand her business. Last year she opened East End Realty in Far Rockaway.

Barbara’s involvement within the Rockaway community is extensive. She sponsors many events in the Rockaways and Broad Channel, and is the creator of the Annual Sand Castle Contest. Barbara is the past President of the 100th Precinct Community Council, Rockaway Rotary Club, Rockaway Columbiettes, and Past Treasurer of the Claddagh Inn, The Saint Patrick’s Parade Committee, and the Regular Democratic Club of the Rockaway.

Rev. Jorge L. Vega has served as Senior Pastor of Full Gospel Tabernacle, a multi-ethnic/cultural congregation located at 4215 Beach Channel Dr. since 1995. Prior to assuming this role, Pastor Vega served in various ministry capacities at Full Gospel Tabernacle including Administrator, Dean of the School of Ministry and Associate Pastor. Active in city and community wide ministry, Pastor Vega sits on the board of several community based organizations and the Leadership Council of Concerts of Prayer Greater New York, hosts the Rockaway Pastors Prayer Fellowship and is the founder/editor of Koinonia: The Rockaway Pastors Newsletter.

Rockaway Development & Revitalization Corporation (RDRC) is a not-for-profit local development corporation, which was organized in 1978 by community residents and business leaders to develop a comprehensive community development program for the Rockaways in response to serious problems including deteriorating commercial areas, residential blight and substandard housing, and high rates of poverty, unemployment, and crime.

The corporation’s overall mission is to promote the revitalization of the community’s economic base and neighborhoods, and assist its residents in obtaining an improved "quality of life."
