If you ever want a vacation of a lifetime, fly away on South African Airways to South Africa. Save your pennies or go now and pay later, whatever it takes, you will not regret the cost, especially if you stay at the luxurious, ever so elegant Orient-Express Hotels as I did at the Westcliff in Johannesburg and the Mt. Nelson in Cape Town. They are equal in service, gourmet food, ambiance, peacefulness and tranquility along with exciting tours and Game Reserves. If you are not up to the exquisite Botswana Game Reserve Safari, there is a day or two Safari called Inverdoorn Game Reserve within two and half hours from Cape Town. After an exhilarating steep cable car ride above Mt. Nelson Hotel I sat atop Table Top Mt. overlooking the captivating Cape Town waterfront below. (see photo). You cannot believe how breathtakingly beautiful South Africa is. You have to see it for yourself.
Back down to reality, I must say, we did have good weather for Easter. Hope you enjoyed all the holidays whichever you observed. It was almost impossible to get a reservation for Kennedy’s on the Bay. Anyone and everyone was there…even Joe Kilbride was dining there with his family. Bartender, Steve Syzyliopulas competed in the first annual stick ball game at the Breezy Point Ball Field and hit a home run even though the Ralph Wiggam All Stars won. My cousin, Patty Crowley and hubby, Bobby who celebrates a birthday, May 5, held a BBQ for the family: Sister Sheila and husband Derek with adorable little daughter, Sabrina, stopped by to join brother, Donald; mother -in-law and mother, Gladys Crowley, sister and sister-in-law, Caryn Fata; sister, Maureen Ritter and daughter, Rachael Flanders and friend and her brothers Rickie and Ryan Flanders. Rachael prepared the delicious potato salad and macaroni salad that complimented the tender grilled steaks. Yours truly and guest, Tom Connors completed the list. It was a fun time and so nice to be together with family.
Chico Eberle called me and I was deeply saddened to hear that Jill, his devoted wife of 44 years, passed away. Jill gave birth to her son, Teddy on Christmas Day, two days earlier than the birth of my son, Jimmy at Peninsula Hospital. That gave us time to compare notes of our babies in the same nursery. Jill was an avid reader and, as Chico said could read a novel in half hour. She was a vibrant community active woman………member of Circle Arts Theatre, Past President of the Garden Club and Chief Petty Officer for 12 years in the Coast Guard at Fort Tilden, She is survived by husband "Chico" Fletcher Eberle, son Teddy who lives in Breezy Point and sister, Mary Ruohonen of Bay Ridge. I hope they have a unending supply of books up there for you Jill. May you rest in peace.
