Jill Anne Eberle
Homemaker, Coast Guard Officer
Eberle, was a homemaker, and a 12 year veteran of the United States Coast Guard Reserve. Chief Petty Officer was her rank in the guard.
She is survived by her husband Fletcher C. Eberle; a son Theodore F. Eberle; sister Mary Ruokonen; and a niece, Lorreine Calafiure.
Visitation was held at the Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home, followed by a private burial the next day.
Eleanor M. Friel
Eleanor M. Friel, a Rockaway resident for more than 30 years, passed away April 15.
Friel was born in Brooklyn. She worked as an assistant station manager for the New York City Transit Authority, and was a parishioner at St. Camillus Church.
Friel was preceded in death by her husband, William Friel.
She is survived by her sons Kevin and William Friel.
Visitation was held at the Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home. Burial was at Long Island National.
Marjorie A. Freese
Marjorie A. Freese, a Breezy Point resident for three decades, passed away April 9.
Freese was born in Brooklyn. She worked in the field of law, as a legal secretary.
She is survived by her husband Robert Freese; daughters Cassie Freese, and Susie Maguire; a brother Robert; and sisters Marilyn Finnelli, and Kathy Gartland.
Visitation was at the Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home. Burial was at the Greenwood Cemetery.
Thomas S. Mink
Channel Hot Dog Man
Thomas S. Mink, a lifelong Broad Channel resident who wintered in Florida, died April 12.
Mink was born in the Rockaway Beach Hospital, in 1932. In the early 1950s he served in the United States Navy, and received the Navy Occupation (Europe) and the Korean Service (one star) Medals.
He was also a longtime member of Building, Concrete, Excavating, and Common Laborers Union, Local 731. After retiring, he operated a very well known hot dog wagon on the corner of 17 Road and Cross Bay Boulevard in Broad Channel.
Mink was active in the American Legion, Post 1404; the Veterans of Foreign, Post 260, and at the North Channel Yacht Club, where many also enjoyed his cooking.
He is preceded in death by his son John, and sister Arlene McMahon.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Judith (nee Galimi); son Joseph; daughters Coleen Murray, Judy Hartmann, and Mary Alice Villacampa; sister Audrey Dobbia; nine grandchildren: Lauren and Mara Mink, Meghan Murray, Thomas and Tara Mink, Courtney and Margaux Hartmann, and Danielle and Samantha Villacampa.
Interment at St. Charles Cemetery, under the direction of Hillebrand Funeral Directors.
Retired UPS Worker
James ONeill, a longtime Rockaway resident, passed away on April 13. He was 73.
ONeill, was born in New York City. He married his wife June in 1952. ONeill was a retired United Parcel Service employee.
He is preceded in death by his parents Mary and Joseph; brothers Joseph and Alfred; sisters Edith and Gladys (ONeills).
He is survived by his wife June; sons James and Michael; daughters Amy Lapaz and Jennifer Barszczak; 13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
A mass was held at St. Johns Church in Center Moriches under the direction of Sinnickson's Moriches Funeral Home. ONeill will be cremated.
Carmen Silvia Pineiro, a resident of the Roy Reuther Senior Housing Development in Far Rockaway, died April 14. She was 72.
Pineiro was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico.
She is preceded in death by her son Samuel Pineiro, and brother Osvaldo Bousquet.
Pineiro is survived by her husband Victor M. Pineiro; daughters Carmen Margaret Narvaez, Evelyn Rivera, Sandra Thomason; sons Victor Pineiro, Jr., and Peter G. Pineiro; sister Clara Velez; nine grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
A Christian blessing was given at the Meserole Funeral Home. Pineiro will be cremated by the Fresh Pond Crematory.
Robert Henry Singer, a Rockaway resident, passed away on April 16.
Singer was born in Newark, NJ. He was a graduate of Columbia High School, in Maplewood NJ. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He lived formerly, in South Oranges and Hillsborough, NC. He worked as a computer technician.
He is survived by his parents Henry Singer, Sr., and Theresa Singer; daughter Danielle Singer; sisters Nancy Franco, Stephanie Mackean, Theresa Toia, and Virginia Mackey; brothers Gregory Singer, Henry Singer, John Singer, Kenneth Singer and Peter Singer.
A memorial mass was said in NC. Funeral arrangements by the Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home.
Geraldine C. Stanley, who was born and raised in Rockaway, died on March 24. She was 57.
Stanley, a homemaker, moved to Fla. in 1987.
She was preceded in death by her father, Salvatore Cocchi.
She is survived by her mother Stella Cocchi; sister Frances McGowan, both residing in Rockaway. Also survived by her husband of 32 years, Michael; a daughter Kim Revell, sons Mark Stanley, Sr., and Michael. She was the mother-in-law of Roy Rivell, and Kelly Stanley.
A memorial mass was held at St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church.
