Legislative Women’s Caucus Tackles Issues
Assemblywoman Audrey I. Pheffer, a member of the Legislative Women’s Caucus in Albany, welcomed Senator Hillary Clinton who joined in the Caucus’ recognition of March as "Women’s History Month" in New York State.
Since its beginning in 1983, the Caucus has worked closely with women’s organizations and concerned individuals across the state, as well as with the Governor, state agencies and other legislators, to advocate for programs and services that benefit women. In addition to the state budget, criminal justice policies, women’s health care, child and dependent care and education are also important concerns.
High on their agenda this year in the Title IX Resolution, which is being reviewed by the federal government. Title IX guarantees athletic equality and gender parity to girls and women participating in sports, and prohibits sex discrimination in federally funded education programs.
Assemblywoman Pheffer has participated in a number of meetings and hearings addressing this complex issue, and she welcomed Senator Clinton’s input from a federal standpoint.
