On March 29, 2003, Sorrentino Recreation Center held its 23rd Annual Rockaway Double Dutch Championships. It was Stan’s Pepper Steppers Double Dutch teams world champions from Sorrentino that took first place honors with Brooklyn placing second and Suffolk placing third. This event is the last Double-Dutch tournament for the Pepper Steppers as they prepare for the America Double Dutch League 30th Annual New York State Double Dutch Championships. The event will take place at Bellport High School on May 17, 2003 in Bellport, Long Island.

The event is a qualifier for the 30th Annual A.D.D.L. Invitation Championship at Sumter, South Carolina from July 12-15. The three areas that was judged are: compulsory- which consists of five parts of turns and crosses, speed- a contest in which the jumpers left foot touches the floor as many times as possible in a two minute period and freestyle (tricks)- a display of dance and acrobatic tricks in a one minute period.

Strong legs and arms, good coordination and dedication help make a successful Double-Dutcher, but the elements are trust and teamwork. Special thanks goes to the Rockaway community, family and friends and the Sorrentino Recreational Staff. The following is a lost of coaches, officials and teams members.
