Pheffer Supports Goals of Health Care Employees
Albany had never seen a turn out like that staged by SEIU, Local #1199, the Health Care Employees’ Union. Thousands upon thousands of health care workers arrived by bus to address the many critical issues facing the health care industry and to protest the Governor’s proposed budget cuts. Assemblywoman Audrey I. Pheffer met with 1199 SEIU President, Denis Rivera, and assured him that she believes the cuts to the health care industry, its workers, and to the consumers as well, are unfair and were a wrong choice for the Governor to make. She said, "We must continue to work for improvements in this growing industry. As our population gets older, our need for health care increases. We must be prepared to meet those needs." Worker after worker explained why they cannot adequately serve the public under current conditions. Pheffer warned that without additional resources, the situation would only worsen.
