The Seaside School, P.S. 225, located in Rockaway Park, is honoring our troops that are stationed all over the world. The sixth grade students have been writing letters, poems and creating collages to honor our military people. The students were particularly touched by the fact that one of their staff members, reading teacher Santa Mugno's son, Marine Corporal Vincent Mugno, is stationed in Kuwait. The students wanted Mrs. Mugno to know that Vincent, along with his fellow soldiers, are not forgotten. The ceremony, led by Principal Mr. Matthew Melchiorre, with Mrs. Vannessa Washington and Mr. Kevin Caifa assisting, took place near the school on Rockaway Beach Blvd. Mrs. Mugno tied a yellow ribbon of remembrance around the tree. The sixth grade students read some of their poems and displayed their artwork for the members of the military. The Pre-K students assisted by waving the American flags in support of the troops. After the readings and presentation to Mrs. Mugno, one hundred flags were placed around the tree. P.S. 225 students and staff wish the flags to remain until Corporal Vincent Mugno and all of his friends come home. Pictured is Mrs. Mugno receiving the gifts from the students.
