A Queens man has been arrested and charged with chasing down another man, and then shooting him several times in the head and midsection, police said.

Eugene O. Green, a.k.a. Gino, was arrested March 29, in Queens, and charged with second-degree murder, and criminal possession of a weapon, in connection with the murder of 20-year-old Torean Ashley. Green pled innocent at arraignment and denies any connection to the incident, according to David Cohen, his attorney.

Cohen said the police have two witnesses that identified Green as one of the men, but is calling this a "classic case of mistaken identity." Speculating about Ashley's criminal background, he said, "There could be many people interested in killing Torean Ashley, and my client is not one of them."

On the morning of March, 28, police from the 101 Precinct responded to a call at Beach 14 Street and Heyson Road. Witnesses there told officers they saw two black males chase down and shoot Ashley, a black male, police said. They described to the officers how Ashley fell to the ground and was then shot in the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The two men fled in a gray station wagon, police said.

Green, of 218-11 144 Avenue in Laurel-ton, was arraigned in Queens Criminal Court before judge Joel L. Blumenfeld, on March 30. His attorney at that time was Jennifer Michelson.

Ashley lived at 139-36 230 Street in Springfield Gardens with his family. The Ashleys were contacted, but did not comment for this story.
