Gone To Johannesburg
Dorothy Dunne Gone To Johannesburg

Though it was a fourteen hour non-stop flight from New York to Johannesburg, it was as pleasant as it could be on South African Airways in roomy Business Class seats good food served around the clock. A smooth take off and very smooth landing in their 747 aircraft.

I had heard so many negative reports about Johannesburg, referred to affectionately as "Jo-burg", I was delightfully surprised to find a vibrant, bustling little metropolis on the verge of great expectations in future infrastructure as well as the building of transitional harmonious human relationships.

One of the most beautiful and romantic hotels in Jo-burg is the brand new (only five years old), pink Orient-Express Westcliff Hotel cascading down a mountain surrounded by magnificent historic mansions. My suite faced the manmade forest where elephants may be viewed and close enough to hear the roar of the lions at night.

Each day was full of sun and comfortable enough to wear a short or long sleeve shirt. Evenings were slightly cooler. The meals and service were more than one could expect in any five star hotel. But, it is their personal attention, especially by their charming and engaging General Manager Mark Holdin, and his friendly and efficient staff that surpasses any other hotel. After all, Orient-Express is well known for the finest and most elegant in travel on their famous Orient Express railroad cars and they most certainly do live up, in every aspect, to their fine reputation at both the Westcliff and Mt. Nelson in "South Africa.

As most of you know and some of you have seen in my "Travels in Style" programs this is the ultimate in "Traveling in Style". Save your pennies, folks, a South African trip such as this, at Orient – Express hotels is well worth it.

I did manage to view the giraffe up close and the lions, as well a pet the lion cubs. The Botswana Game Park is a flight away and another ultimate experience in Safari.

Please note, you ladies and men, too, who are looking for a nip and tuck, there is a Safari and Surgery program available to you. You can go on Safari and come back rejuvenated and looking younger than ever. These special programs are yours at both the Westcliff Hotel in Jo-burg and Mt.Nelson Hotel in Cape Town where I am writing this column presently.

More on South Africa and Cape Town next week.

Will be back home April 10.

And, away we go!!!
