Lacrosse Day A Great Day For Kids And Adults
With all that has been going on regarding Iraq, it was truly refreshing to participate with an outstanding group of youth and young adults this past weekend at Far Rockaway High School. March 21 and 22nd was two extremely exciting days. Last Friday, the youth of Rockaway went to a foggy and wet Hofstra University to experience the sporting traditions of two great universities.
Once again, Kevin Corrigan, head coach of Lacrosse at Notre Dame took the time to speak to the Rockaway Sports Association (RSA) regarding their academics and achieving their best. Chris Douglas and David Carabello had the chance of a lifetime and heads up on a multitude of young adults in sports having the head coach of our greatest universities in Notre Dame. Thanks Coach Corrigan. Hofstra won an exciting 9-8 win over Notre Dame.
On Saturday, March 22 saw over fifty youth participate in the RSA Lacrosse Day festivities. A multitude of sponsors and supporters showed up for the Rockaways first sunny and warm Saturday. B.O.S.S. (Brotherhood of Subway Sandwiches) President Mike Sangiamo did an outstanding job with presiding over the day’s festivities as host. Coach Bernard Ramchatesingh, who assisted with the overall administration for Lacrosse Day, did an outstanding job along with all of the BOSS staff.
Assisting in the day’s festivities was Mr. Carlton Glasford, owner of Subway at Beach 20 Street, who finally took a few minutes off of work to meet the youth. Thanks Mr. "G". Special thanks goes to several friends of the RSA, the Far Rockaway High School Custodial Department, Mr. Gary Neuser, chairman of the Physical Education Department and a special shoutout to Coach Ken Hernandez, Far Rockaway head baseball coach.
Last but not least, a truly special thanks to the Urban Patriots #1 sponsor, J. P. Morgan Chase. All in all, the youth had fun and learned some of the basic skills of Lacrosse, along with everyone receiving a nice Subway lunch and gifts. The Urban Patriots lacrosse practices are every Saturday, 2:30 p.m. at Beach Channel High School and Sunday, 3 p.m. at Far Rockaway High School.
See ya’ll at practice.
