The Inner Voice
These columns have been focusing on the daily "how to live" aspects. These days, there are so many reasons to loss control over our own emotions. Do we control our emotions or do we recognize what we feel, and then let the energy go and bring in beautiful peace? As we go through our lives, it really is a two-fold process. As much as possible, no matter what the state of our energy, we must step back from ourselves, and see if we are where we believe our energy should be. We have so much to deal with everyday. The political and economics and environmental issues outside of ourselves and our own personal problems and important decisions can do a lot to disturb our own peace. People are feeling bad that we can no longer go back to the happy innocence we used to feel when we just lived and felt secure. Now we can never feel secure because of terrorists and necessary precautions. We see a police presence on our streets, and it has to have some impact on what we feel. But we can still choose to be happy in spite of life’s uncertainty. When I have an opportunity, I choose happiness.
The first part is to always remember that we can choose to be a bright light like the flame on a burning candle. The light stays on regardless of what goes on around it. We cleanse and protect our energy, and make sure it is a beacon of light as much as possible. My light doesn’t get turned off because of what someone else says or does or because I feel insecure or angry. Nothing in the news or on television can turn off my own light. My power source is God or the Universe, and nothing but my leaving this plane has the power to shut me off but myself. We can do deep breathing, bring our thoughts to healing and open our energy to God and the Universe. We can keep our thoughts free of unreal fears and doubt as much as possible and switch to clarity and trust in both myself and in God. I have to know inside that if something does happen, I will know what to do at that moment, so for now, I can let go and seize the present moment.
The second part is to watch how I react to circumstances, what I see on television or hear on the radio and the actions or words of others. So many people get upset because others think differently. Am I allowing myself to get paralyzed because I believe someone spoke to me in a nasty tone, or I am misunderstood by another or I wanted life to go one way and it went another? Do I realize that other people may value different things than I do? Other people’s timing may differ from mine or I am driving myself crazy because I can’t understand how someone could do such a thing. We can go on and on and get caught up in the energy of another, rather than staying focused within. We must make a choice to not get lost in the energy of another. We can question, let it go, change ourselves, leave the situation, etc. We can make our choice in actions without being paralyzed by our own emotional state. We have to step back from ourselves, feel what we feel, let it go, be cleansed and then decide what to do. Being detached does not mean taking no action. It means taking the action that I believe is right without being encumbered by the unnecessary emotions that cloud our ability to think clearly. In these difficult days, it is more important than ever to remain in balance.
