RBVL Holds Meeting For 2003 Season
The word is spreading like wildfire throughout Rockaway that beach volleyball time is near. The phone lines are buzzing with excitement as teams begin to form for the new summer season. Trades and contract extensions can all be handled at the first meeting of the year, which will be held at Kerry Hills Pub on Wednesday, 3/26 at 8:00 p.m. All team captains are required to attend; players are welcome as well. Captains must bring a deposit of $50 per team to insure a spot in the league.
Additionally, this is the time for new individuals and teams to sign up. There are limits to the amount of teams the league can handle so be sure to sign up early. First consideration is always given to returning teams and it can’t hurt for a new team to get in the mix this week. As always, there will be several different divisions with varying levels of skill, ranging from beginners (who average 1 kill and 4.2 beers per match) to advanced (who average 21 kills and 1.3 beers per match).
Any prospective new referees should come by if you would like to be worked into our rotation. You do not need to be a certified ref to work in the RBVL. In fact, many refs have been quite successful with a strong playing background (college and high school) and limited referee experience.
You can mark a few special dates on your calendars already: 5/21 – first practice night on the beach. Uniforms and schedules will be given out at that time. Nets will be available for everyone. 5/28 - opening day. Play will continue every Wednesday until 8/9. 8/9 - league championships. Remember this is a Saturday. Keep your schedule clear.

You can’t call Joe McGivney since he’ll be in Port St. Lucie at NY Mets Spring training camp for the 18th year in a row. But I’m sure he’ll be thinking of you all while sitting in the sun watching Mike Piazza rap line drives all over Florida. See you on 3/26.
