Horace L. King
Horace L. King, a Far Rockaway Resident, died at St. Vincent's Medical Center, Staten Island, on March 8. He was 67.
King was born in Thomasville, Ala., in 1935. He attended public school there, and later moved to the N.Y.C. area.
In 1958, he married Betty. They had seven children together. King is predeceased by his parents, brothers Rich-ard and Leroy, and two sons, Stanley and Horace, Jr.
He is survived by his wife, sons Stephen, Marvin and Douglas, and daughters Janith and Robin. King is also survived by 15 grandchildren, brothers Leonard, Herman and Robert, sisters Dorothy and Minnie Anderson and sister-in-law Frenchie.
Services were held at the Lawrence Funeral Chapel, in Lawrence.
Sylvia Macklis, who owned the Belle-n-Beau children's clothing shop on Beach 116 Street and was a Bell Harbor resident for 25 years, died on March 6.
Macklis, who was born in N.Y., had relocated to Santa Ana, Calif.
She is preceded in death by husband Hyman Macklis.
She is survived by her daughter Lisa Macklis Stanton, a graduate of Far Rockaway High School, and two grandchildren Jared and Jordan.
Beth Ann Murphy, a Far Rockaway resident for 15 years, died March 15.
A former social worker, Murphy is survived by daughter Paulette Baec-ker, sons Robert Mecus and Joseph Mecus III. Also by sisters Dolores Jones, Eileen McCarthy, Geraldine Murphy, and brothers Edward and Joseph Murphy. She had two grandchildren; Matthew and Emily Mecus.
Thomas J. Phillips, an Averne resident for more than 60 years, died March 13.
Phillips, born in Rockaway Beach, was a parishioner at St. Rose of Lima Church. He worked as a carpentry foreman for Turner Construction. Phillips was retired.
Phillips is preceded in death by his brother Charles.
He is survived by his wife Carol (nee Parlo) Phillips, and daughter Cara Lyn Mathews. Also by son-in-law Sean, brother Edward, mother-in-law Virginia Parlo, and grandson Jack Thomas. Also by seven in-laws and nine nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held at the Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home on March 15. Burial was at the St. Charles Ceme-tery on March 17.
Beatrice Schenker, a 40 year Rock-away resident, died March 16.
She is survived by husband Joseph Schenker, daughters Lynda, Robin and Sherree. Also survived by grandchildren Margot, Curtis, Marjorie, Carla, Eric and Adam, and great-grandchildren Malik and Thomas.
Burial was held March 17, at Park-side Memorial Chapel.
Edmund John Sullivan, a 20 year Rockaway resident, died March 16.
Sullivan, born in Brooklyn, was a parishioner at St. Camillus Church. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII.
He is predeceased by wife Lillian (nee Lennon) Sullivan.
He is survived by daughters Mar-garet Geisel and Marybeth O'Neill, and a son Edmund J. Sullivan. Also survived by seven grandchildren.
Visitation was held at the Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home on March 18. Burial was at Calverton National the next day.
