A 20-year-old Far Rockaway man, visiting the Ocean Bay Houses on Beach 54 Street, was shot three times in his legs and lower chest last week by an unknown assailant.

According to police at the 101 Pre-cinct in Far Rockaway, Jamel Hamil-ton, of Beach 17 Street in Far Rock-away, was found on March 17 by police officers on patrol in front of 410 Beach 54 Street. He had been shot once in each leg and once in the lower chest.

Police say that two police officers assigned to a foot patrol at the housing complex heard numerous shots at approximately 6:45 p.m. on that Thursday. The two officers, Police Officers Boone and Simone, quickly found Hamilton on the ground in front of the building.

Hamilton reportedly told police that he was walking from the side of the building when at least two males began shooting at him. According to Hamilton, at least ten shots were fired.

He was treated at the scene and removed by EMS to Mary Immaculate Hospital in Queens.

Sources at the hospital say that Hamilton remains in stable condition.

Police sources refused to speculate on whether this shooting is tied to the recent outbreak of violence between the youth of local housing complexes, which led to ten people being injured in a Manhattan shootout two weeks ago.
