A Pipe Band Is Born In Breezy Point
The Breezy Point Catholic Club Pipe and Drum Band was formed in July of 2001, and was the brain child of Terry Williams, Jr. and Jim Adams.
The band has just celebrated its first graduating class of 25 men, women and children. Playing for the first time they made their debut on Sat March 1st, in this years Rockaway St. Patrick’s Parade, along with other seasoned members. A gala celebration followed the march in the Breezy Point Catholic Club (BPCC), with a fine performance by the Band and additional entertainment by the Patty Furlong Band.
Our proud new pipers and drummers are; Brian and Patricia Logar, Brittney Dombrowski, Kara and Sean Egan, John Moran, Tim Halligan, Kelly Johnston, Terri Pupura, Mary Cait Cunneen, Mike O’Meara, Annie Baatz, Joe Drennan, Penny Adams, Sean Casey, Mike Flanagan, Timmy Arasin, Steve Cory. John Pupura, and Billy Kinane. Along with our color guards Michael Maloney, Kevin Logar, Brianna Johnston, Brian Leary, and Brian Cassidy.
Our seasoned band members are Terry Williams, Fitz Adams, Finbar Devine, Nancy and Bob Huffman, Lori and Ray Wasson, Kenny Burke, Bill Mackey, Thomas Maloney, Theresa Hyland and Larry Deemer, Pat Adams.
The Band had its first official performance leading the Catholic Club in the 2002 Mardi Gras. Now with the addition of its 1st graduating class the band is in its first full marching season. This month the band will be performing in 9 Parades. Rockaway being the first with parades in East Islip, Bayport, Ronkonkoma, Union County, Park Slope, New York City, Pearl River, and finishing up in Bay Ridge.
The band will be sporting their new regalia.
The logo was designed by Terry Williams and Nancy Jackson. It incorporates a Celtic cross, the light house, and by the sea written in Gaelic (Cois Farraige).
The kilts have a new tartan design in memory of 9/11,called the New York Tartan.
