Hop on board for a journey to fantastic places and intriguing images. Join us on Sunday, March 23 at 1 PM. Your voyage begins as soon as you enter sTudio 6 Gallery for "Destinations." You and your fellow travelers are transported into worlds that are familiar and exotic; physical and spiritual. You are first brought into the world of the familiar. Veronica Mahoney's paintings of Jamaica Bay and A.J. Furman's haunting black and white photographs of Fort Tilden are among the works that offer new interpretations of familiar places. Janet Dever's shocking colors and shapes of the American southwest and the ruggedness of the Rockies presented by Ruth Gellis continue the exploration of the not-so-foreign. As you proceed on your path through the gallery, you proceed to distant and foreign lands and people. Through various media and genres, artists including Robert Sarnoff, Joseph Rothenberg, Mary Kelly and Madeline Braisted bring other corners of the world into ours. Turkey, Spain, Yugoslavia, Greece. Just some of the lands through which the sTudio 6 traveler will journey. Finally the voyage proceeds to the spiritual realm of self-discovery. One encounters the life-size figure of a woman; 3-d dioramas that pull the viewer into an intriguing and complex environment. As you complete the circle of this excursion, you come upon a piece which brings you to the place where life begins. Join us this Sunday for the opening reception of an exhibition that will take you away and lead you back home.
