Bertha Bayard
Board of Ed Employee

Bertha Bayard, who lived in Rockaway for over 30 years, before relocating to Manalapan, NJ, died on Feb. 16. She was 83.

Bayard, who had lived in Dayton building 3 with her husband Julie, once worked for the New York City Board of Education. She enjoyed playing piano, watching basketball, and ice cream.

She was predeceased one brother and by Julie. She is survived by brother Hy Wiener of FL, son Steven, daughter-in-law Ronnie, their children Jesse and Chelsea, of NJ, daughter Emily Bayard, son-in-law Greg Caulton and their son Benjamin, of MA. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was buried at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery in Iselin, NJ.


Robert E. Carroll
MTA Employee

Robert E. Carroll, a Rockaway Beach resident and MTA worker, passed away on Feb. 19 at the age of 59.

Carroll was predeceased by parents Catherine and Earl, and by sister Mary Deikman and brother-in-law Thomas Phillips.

He is survived by brothers Thomas and Daniel, sisters Elizabeth Phillips, and Margaret Panarella. Also survived by Thomas Cusack. He was the beloved uncle of Scott, Carla, Anthony, Catherine, Christine and Tiffany, and a brother-in-law to AnnMarie, and Melavic.

A private service was held at Thomas M. Quinn & Sons Funeral Home in Astoria, Queens, on Feb. 21. A memorial mass is scheduled for later this year.


Ann C. Curry
Longtime Resident

Ann C. Curry, a 40-year Rockaway Point resident, passed away March 8.

Curry, born in Brooklyn, had worked as a bookkeeper, and in banking. She was a parishioner at St. Thomas More, and a member of the Breezy Point Golden Age.

She is predeceased by brothers James and John Curry. She is survived by brother Richard T. Curry, and sisters Cathy and Helen Curry, Dorothy Gabriel, Mary Gillen, and Mean McGee.

Visitation was held at the Denis S. O'Connor funeral home on March 13.


George H. Smith
Navy Veteran

George H. Smith, a 30-year Rockaway resident who served in the U.S. Navy after WWII, died on March 5.

A parishioner at St. Camillus, Smith is predeceased by his wife Regina (Nee Hannon) Smith, and sons George and Michael Smith. He is survived by daughter-in-law Florence Smith, and friend Patricia Dietrich.

Visitation was held at the Dennis S. O'Connor funeral home on March 11.


Edward J. Walsh
Sanitation Foreman

Edward James Walsh, a long-time Broad Channel resident who relocated to Springhill FL several years ago, died on March 6.

He worked in the Rockaway area, as a sanitation foreman, for many years.

Walsh is survived by his wife of 52 years Jean, sons Patrick and Scott, daughters Jean Johnson and Joyce Adamiszyn, grandchildren Patrick, Shane, and Michael Walsh, Ryan Johnson, Keith and Lydia Adamiszyn.

Funeral services were held at Turner Funeral Home in Springhill, FL.
