Video Highlights Changes
in Catholic-Jewish Relations
The Rockaway Catholic-Jewish Council and the Men’s Club of the Temple will co-sponsor a video, which encapsulates the story of Catholic-Jewish relationships during the last 40 years. All are welcome to the presentation on March 19 at 7:30 p.m.
"I Am Joseph, Your Brother," is a documentary film by Rabbi Ron Kronish, and it is forthright in noting the changes that have come about in Catholic-Jewish relations.
The film deals honestly with some difficult questions in the dialogue. For example, topics such as the Vatican secret archives, Yad Vashem, Pius XII’s alleged silence, the holocaust, Nostra Aetate, blood sacrifices attributed to Jews, Dabru Emet, and many other topics are featured and explained clearly and openly.
The film is inspired by Pope John XXIII’s meeting with a Jewish delegation at the Vatican shortly before he became Pope. His greeting to them was simple and profound: "I am Joseph, your brother," referring to the scene in Genesis when Joseph reveals himself to his brothers. The film also highlights Pope John Paul’s pilgrimage to the holy shrines of both Judaism and Christianity in his recent trip to Israel.
Rabbi Kronish wanted this film to offer a Jewish viewpoint on the past 40 years of relations between the Jewish people and the Catholic Church.
