St. John’s Episcopal Hospital South Shore has been awarded a three-year term of re-accreditation in mammography, as a result of a recent survey by the American College of Radiology.
The American College of Radiology, based in Reston, Va., awards accreditation to hospitals for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation. Evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. They assess the qualification of the personnel and the adequacy of the hospital’s equipment. The surveyors report their finding to the College’s Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides a comprehensive report.
St. John’s mammography program offers state-of-the-art equipment and is staffed by board certified radiologists and certified technicians. The Imaging Department handles more than 50,000 images a year, and also offers highly sophisticated digital fluoroscopy for interventional radiology, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, CT scans, and vascular imaging.
