The Stars completed their regular season schedule, in Long Island Hockey League play, with a 5-2 victory over the Brewster Bulldogs. The game was played at Brewster, NY and the win gave the Stars third place in league action. The Stars pounded home a power play score 2:27 into the game. Center Alex Mitic got the goal, assisted by winger Michael Davie and defenseman Jesse Wynn.

Less than 2 minutes later, the Bulldogs made it an even game, as they beat Stars goalie Ricky Cibrano with a long range shot from the high slot. The Stars took the ensuing face off, drove deep into the attacking zone and nailed the go ahead goal, as forward Patrick Brown found the net, converting Mitic’s pass. With 1:16 to go in the first period, the Stars went up by a 3-1 score. Center Kenny Fiorentino wristed home the disc, assisted by winger James Gilhooly.

On the first shift of the middle period, the Stars went ahead 4-1 on a beautiful power move by Brown, who again was assisted by Mitic. Midway through the final period, Stars center Michael Kress thrilled the visiting supporters, with a great unassisted individual effort, resulting in a 5-1 lead.

The Brewster boys ended the scoring with just over 4 minutes to play, as once again, they beat Cibrano from the high slot. The Stars outshot the upstaters 33-17, played very well defensively, as they helped Cibrano to his thirty-first victory of the year.

After suffering a 6-0 defeat last week to the Stars, the Hackensack, NJ Avalanche sent their Select team to Coney Island, to take on the Stars. Although bigger, faster and more talented than last weeks team, the Jersey boys could not even the score against the Stars, dropping a 3-1 decision.

In a truly exciting game, where both teams were executing a very high level, their respective fans were treated to a great game. After battling each other evenly for most of the first period, the Stars took a 1-0 lead with 34 seconds remaining in the session. Center Kenny Fiorentino got the goal, assisted by forward James Gilhooly and defenseman Paddy Mead.

50 seconds into the second period found the Stars ahead 2-0. Forward Patrick Brown took a chip pass from his center Alex Mitic, in the neutral zone, broke wide around the Avalanche defense and roofed a great looking goal. 3:33 remained in the period when the Jersey team outmuscled the Stars down low and beat goalie Ricky Cibrano, making it a 2-1 game. The Stars shut down the Avalanche in the final period, holding them to but 3 shots on goal, as centers Fiorentino, Mitic and Kress forechecked and backchecked tremendously.

At 9:47 of the period the Stars iced the game, as forward Joey Forcina found the net assisted by Kress and winger Luke Albert. The Stars outshot their foes 34-15, in a fine display of defensive hockey. Once again the Stars received scoring from each of their 3 forward lines, showing a well balanced attack.
