Awards Luncheon Hosted By Ladies Auxiliary
The Ladies Auxiliary of the Morris Haynes, Veterans of Foreign War, Post 2781 hosted an awards luncheon on Monday, January 20 at the Sorrentino Center.
Awards were presented to several young students for outstanding achievement in many categories; art, essay writing and community work.
The young people and their parents were invited to attend.
The highlight of the afternoon was the "Americanism" award presented to Telicia Docherty for her essay, "My Pledge to America." Telicia will compete with four other finalists for the top prize.
An award was also presented to Taishoan Spates, 14 years old, for her painting of the American flag.
Rosa Shepherd, President of Queens County Council and Jessica Sheard, president of the Morris Hayes, Ladies Auxiliary, were on hand to present the awards and offer congratulations to all the students.
