Elba Aviles
Beloved Homemaker

Elba Aviles, who was born in Puerto Rico, but who lived in Far Rockaway for 48 years, died on February 13.

She was predeceased by her husband, Emilio Aviles, her son, Ezra Avil-es and her daughter, Violetta Aviles.

She is survived by her daughters Evelyn Artis and Margarita Aviles and a son, Gilbert Aviles, 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Interment was at the All Faiths Lutheran Cemetery under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home on February 16.

Gloria Ann Horne
Business Innovator

Born to Russian immigrants in Brooklyn, Gloria Horne moved to Rockaway in 1947 with her first husband and remained there for the rest of her life. She died on February 10 in Far Rockaway.

Gloria and her husband, Harold Schain owned and operated the luncheonette at Beach 25 Street and Far Rockaway Boulevard, next to the subway station, for many years. Schain died in 1957 in the crash of a two-seater plane over the Atlantic Ocean and their daughter, Jody, was born only three months later.

In 1964, Gloria married Lester and the family moved to Bayswater.

Gloria became an active member of the Rockaway Music and Arts Council in the early 1970s.

Services were held at the Star of David Cemetery in Tamarac, Florida.

Loretta Lysaght
Hat Designer

Loretta Lysaght, who was born in Brooklyn, but lived in Breezy Point for 22 years, died on February 13.

The former hat designer was a parishioner at the St. Thomas More Church and a long-time volunteer at the Breezy Point Activity Center as well as at the St. Thomas More Golden Age Club.

Lysaght was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Lysaght and her bro-ther, Gasper Cafiero.

She is survived by her sister, Ann Carrai and Ann's husband, Edward, as well as by a sister-in-law, Dorothy Cafiero.

In addition, she is survived by two nieces, seven nephews, 10 great neph-ews, six great nieces, one great great niece and one great nephew.

Interment was at Holy Cross Ceme-tery under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home.

Geraldine Walder
Teacher's Assistant

Geraldine Walder, 71, born in Walt-ham, Massachusetts and a 34-year-resident of Rockaway died on Dec-ember 30.

The retired Board of Education Teacher's Assistant was preceded in death by two husbands, Fred Austern and Bernard Walder.

She is survived by her daughters, Sandra Austern and Linda Austern and by her son-in-law, Bradley Finkel-stein.
