P.S. 106 Makes List Of Most Improved Schools
P.S. 106 made the State Education Department’s list of most improved schools in grade 4 ELA and math. The list were released to the public on the State Education Department’s website.
In order for a school to make this list, the school must have shown greater than 20% improvement in students meeting standards over a three year period (1999-2002) and must currently have over 50% of the students meeting standards.
P.S. 106 achieved a city rank of the tenth most improved school in ELA (out of 104 schools listed) and a state rank of thirty four (out of 479 schools listed), and a city rank of eighteenth most improved school in math (out of 30 schools listed) and a state rank of sixty-nine (out of 106 schools listed).
P.S. 106 is one of only 10 city schools that showed a three year improvement of greater than 20% in students meeting standards (level 3 and 4) in both grade 4 ELA and math.
Mr. Arthur Straus, principal of P.S. 106, attributed the school’s success in reading and math to the hard work of a dedicated staff that has high expectations for all students and to the structured reading and math programs at the school.
