DOROTHY DUNNEDOROTHY DUNNE

Tune in Sunday, Feb. 23 at 5 p.m. on WNYX-TV UHF Ch. 35 to see the television series. "Dorothy Dunne Tra-vels in Style" this time " to the Do-minican Republic". You’ll see some of the Old Town and history of Santo Do-mingo, their Carnival and beautiful resorts in Punta Cana.

Highlights of the televised annual Awards in Excellence Gala held at the Pierre Hotel will be aired on Sun., Feb. 23. at 4 p.m. on WLIW 21. It celebrates "Our Town-Bridging Com-munities". Hosted by Ben Veereen with The Peter Duchin Orchestra.

A President’s Day to re-member, a winter wonderland, possibly, but walking thigh high in snow with winds that blow you over is not the best way to spend the holiday. I am sure the children don’t agree. They were full of laughter and glee as they rode their sleds down the hills at the "Circle" and built snowmen on the premises. But, as Mayor Bloomberg always says, "We’er New Yorkers and can take it!" And that we are. As long as the public transportation keeps running so will we. Although the shuttle from Broad Channel to 116 St. Rockaway Park didn’t run. The fact Monday was a holiday eased the pressure for business riders.

Warmer days are coming. I am sure we will all be glad to see Springtime. And, that reminds me of the new Springtime fashion collections that have been exhibited throughout the City along with Fall forecasts and a collection of Italian Fashions of the most important 20th century Italian designers that are now on display at the Fashion Institute of America and will be there until April 12. They held a Gala preview last week catered by Chipriani. It is spectacular and is the first time since Gianni Versace, Signature Exhibition in 1992 that all the Galleries at FIT have been filled. It provides insight into the rapid rise to one of the world’s fashion capitals. Italy has a long tradition of quality and fine craftsmanship and now can be characterized by the technical innovations from fiber to finished product. Take time out to go over to see it.

The Toy Fair is in town and I attended the press introduction of Barbie’s new friend, someone she can really sponge on , or he may even sponge off her...cause he is none other than Sponge Bob. You will see the big promotion with Nickelodeon. on TV. Funny Face Cooking Kits seem to be big for girls and boys as well . They can make their own pizza’s and cookies etc for their parties. They are easy to make, fun to eat and come with all the ingredients. You know the popular airline carry-on luggage with wheels? Chicco has a small version of it for children that is lightweight and easy to pull. It has enough room to hold their overnight or two night visits and light enough to pull through crowds or streets or airports. They also have a number of tot size mobile vehicles and many wonderful activity toys for children such as: Light and Sound Noah’s Ark that includes a working keyboard and numerous animal voices, melodies and sound effects for ages 9 to 24 months. Many, many more that combine learning and play for all children.
