PS 114 Is Our School

PS 114 Is Our School

This is a response to James Darrigan's letter, "When Hell Freezes Over."

The people of Breezy Point and Roxbury have as much right to consider PS114 their neighborhood school as do the residents of Belle Harbor and Neponsit. This is the closest school to our community and has been our zoned school for years. (Trust me, if we could get a school closer to our homes we would be thrilled). Your suggestion that our children be bused to PS 225 because we are already on the bus is stupid; with your logic once PS 225 becomes filled to capacity where would you bus us to Brooklyn, Howard Beach or further east? You must reside east of the current PS 114 zone, since your interests appear to have more to do with your property value than the school your children attend. There are no problems with the
current PS 114 zone, but there will be capacity problems if the children
who reside outside the zone, (east of 123rd St, Dayton Towers, etc.),
continue to  use an in zone address to send their children to PS 114.
Establishing PS 225 as a neighborhood school is the best solution for the west end. It will eliminate the busing of the ocean village children,
establish a neighborhood school and hopefully relieve any capacity
problems on the west end.
