‘CF Plunge’ Set For February 8

‘CF Plunge’ Set For February 8

More than 100 swimmers will enter the freezing waters of the Atlantic Ocean at Beach 98 Street at about 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 8 and they will be doing it for a good cause.

They will be taking the plunge to fight Cystic Fibrosis.

Cystic Fibrosis is an inherited disease affecting the cells and glands that produce mucus, sweat, tears, saliva and digestive juices. Normally, these secretions are thin and slippery. With those who have CF, however, those secretions are thick and sticky.

The Cystic Fibrosis Plunge set for each February has become an annual Rockaway event and it traditionally raises a significant amount of money for research into a cure for the deadly disease.

Those interested in joining in this year’s plunge, held in honor of Annie McMahon, should meet at the Boulevard Tap and Grill Restaurant on Beach 98 Street at 1:30 p.m.

The plunge itself will last from 2:30 until 2:31.

There will be a party open to all contributors at the Tap and Grill following the plunge, from 3 p.m. until 5:30 p.m.
