After a week of midterms and the end of the regular season, the PSAL will implement their second annual borough championships starting on Friday, January 31. This year, the championships are given more importance because it takes place before the citywide playoffs and teams who are on the bubble have the chance to clinch an berth to advance to the next round of playoffs. The playoffs will be completed before the February 7 seeding for the citywide championships.

The Rockaways will be well represented. For the 14-2 Queens IB division champion Beach Channel Lady Dolphins, they have a tough opponent as the 8th place Dolphins faces off against #1 seeded Francis Lewis. Katreem Palmer leads BC at 21 points per game and point guard Chaquit Ivory is the second leading scorer. Francis Lewis is in the ‘A’ league and is undefeated at 14-0. Lewis does not have a high scoring player but they have dominated their league. The closest win was by 16 points to Jamaica and defeated Bryant by a score of 84-7.

The Beach Channel Men’s team, the Queens III A division champions, is the #2 seed and faces off against Queens 1-A champion Forest Hills. Top junior Rahshon Clark with 24 points and 11 rebounds and Arthur Robertson with 12 points and 8 rebounds a game leads the Dolphins. Dennis Matute and Christ Chin, who both score 16 points a game, lead Hills.

The second place Far Rockaway Men’s Seahorses, who finished 15-3 goes against 10-4 Bayside. Bayside finished third in a tough Queens II A division behind Cardozo and Jamaica, who are also in the Queens playoffs. Far Rock Senior Richard Forbes finished with 30 points a game to lead the PSAL and Arthur Robertson averaged 15 points per game and 15 rebounds per game. 20-point scorer Ryan Leak leads Bayside.
