Greenpoint Foundation Sets Scholarships

Assemblywoman Audrey I. Pheffer has been notified by the GreenPoint Foundation, an affiliate of GreenPoint Bank, that they will be awarding 100 $2,500 scholarships (which are renewable for three years, amounting to a total of $10,000) to high school seniors who reside in the five boroughs of New York, Nassau, Suffolk and Westchester Counties.

Since its establishment in 1995, GreenPoint Foundation, through its GreenPoint Achievers Scholarship Program, has granted 500 scholarships totaling $5 million. In June of this year, 65 of the current achievers are expected to join the 130 students who have already completed their program by graduating from college.

This year, GreenPoint is seeking to grant a higher percentage of scholarships to students from low-to-moderate-income families.

Applicants to the GreenPoint Achievers Program must show financial need; be a high school senior to plans to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two or four-year college; have a cumulative 3.0 grade point average; and reside in one of the five boroughs, Nassau, Westchester or Suffolk County.

Interested high school seniors must complete an application and mail it along with a complete transcript of grades, three letters of reference and the top page of their parent's Form 1040 postmarked no later than March 1st, 2003.

Applications may be obtained by calling either of Assemblywoman Pheffer's District Offices at (718) 945-9550 or (718) 641-8755; or by dropping by 90-16 Rockaway Beach Boulevard, Rockaway Beach, or 108-14 Cross Bay Boulevard in Ozone Park.
