Free Learn To Swim Classes Offered

Free Learn To Swim Classes Offered

The Parks & Recreation’s tradition of free swim instruction continues with the Winter/Spring session of "Learn To Swim."

Five Parks & Recreation public indoor pools will teach the basics of swimming to children ages 6 to 14 weekday afternoons.

For the past fifteen years, Learn To Swim has been one of Parks & Recreation’s most-attended citywide athletic programs and a shining example of our commitment to the health and safety of New Yorkers from an early age. Over 7,000 people participated in 2002.

Parents should bring their child to the pool with a bathing suit and register between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. As space is limited, they are accepting registration on a first come first serve basis. For more information, call the Aquatics Hotline at (718) 699-4219.

There are locations for the classes in the five boroughs.

In Queens, classes will be held on Thursdays, February 13 to April 24, at the Roy Wilkens Recreation Center, located at Merrick Boulevard and 119 Avenue. Registration will be on February 6.

In Brooklyn, classes will be held at three locations.

The Brownsville Recreation Center, located at Linden and Christopher Boulevards, will offer classes Tuesdays and Thursdays, February 11 to April 24. Registration is on February 4 and 6.

The Metropolitan Pool, located at Metropolitan and Bedford Avenues, will offer classes Mondays and Wednesdays, February 10 to April 23. Registration is on February 3 and 5.

The St. John’s Recreation Center, located at Prospect Place, will hold classes Mondays and Wednesdays, from February 10 to April 23. Registration is on February 3 and 5.
