Lady Seahorses Soar At Martin Luther King Relays!

The Far Rockaway High School Lady Seahorses track team made a statement Monday at The Martin Luther King Relays. This meet featured the entire P.S.A.L. going against one another. The lady seahorses strutted their stuff as they won the team championship.

The day started with Aliesha Henry and Naja Watts taking third place in the 2x55m hurdles. Latoya Barthley and Naja Watts took 4th place in the 2x long jump relay.

Michelle Beckford and Taniqua Grant won the 2x high jump relay. Next, Aliesha Henry and Darine Fortune took 4th place in the 2x triple jump relay. This was followed by a 1-2 finish in the pole vault by Michelle Beckford and Shamar Stewartson.

In the freshman 4x200 relay the team of Carrie Hines, Ruth Joseph, Shana Woods and Rochae pettgrave took 2nd place. In the freshman 4x400 relay the team of Whitney Henry, Ruth Joseph, Shana Woods and Rochae Pettgrave took 4th place.

In the varsity 4x400 meter relay coach Michael Gliner saw his team show their depth. The team of Jeavon Benjamin, Shellean Fyffe, Aleisha Woodley and Letisha Howard raced to gold medals winning easily in 3:58.00. In addition, the team of Kaydean Brown, Gaelle Okio, Serephia Ferrigon and Jessica Belgrave brought home the bronze and qualified for the city championships in the process.

After about a ten-minute rest, the team of Jeavon Benjamin, Shellean Fyffe, Aleisha Woodley and Letisha Howard came back on the track and won the championship 4x200 meter relay in 143.30. This bested their state fastest time this year. They now have the two fastest 4x200m times in the state this year.

Coaches Michael Gliner and Larry Parrish are now starting to see the hard work and dedication of this team start to payoff. With a large team of runners and only a few seniors this could be only the beginning!

Great job girls!
