‘Vermillion’ Defines New RAA Exhibition

"Vermillion: A Show of RED." No, not a game show. An exhibition heated by the excitement that is RED. Scarlet, Alizarin Crimson, Burgundy, Cadmium light, dark or medium and even Vermillion. Just in time for your Valentine. Voluptuous, sensual forms awash in red. Sunflowers bursting with fire. Seas aflame by sunset. Scarlet birds exotic and domestic. The Rockaway Artists Alliance, in partnership with Gateway National Recreation Area, presents "Vermillion: A Show of RED" from February 1 – March 9, at sTudio 6 Gallery, Fort Tilden, Rockaway, Queens. The wine and cheese opening reception is Sunday, February 2 from 1-3 p.m. It will feature acoustic guitarist Tim Kearney. Admission is free to exhibition and reception. Gallery hours are Saturdays 12-5 p.m. and Sundays 1-4 p.m.

"Vermillion." Blood-hued flower pods bursting in passion. Thermal forests, dragons, a shimmering black figure against a vermillion wall, crimson-suited bathers against a gray sea. Abstract and realistic. Warm-colored barns in a stark landscape. Serious and humorous. A teddy bear, equipped with the New York Times, entering a rouge outhouse. Corrugated board translated to a metal prison. Delicate metal sculpture in tribute to the mighty pomegranate. Paintings, photos, colored pencil. RED in all its glories and implications, shades and tints. Come to the Rockaway Arts Center at Fort Tilden to celebrate the color of life and love.

Title: Vibrant Desire. Artist: Callie Danae Hirsch. Medium: Oil on canvas
