RMAC Hosts Picasso

RMAC Hosts Picasso

For the Blockbuster Exhibition Matisse Picasso, soon to arrive at The Museum of Modern Art, Queens, Rockaway Music & Arts Council has reserved a limited number of prime-time tickets. On Saturday afternoon, February 22nd at 3pm, you can be one of the first to see what The Wall Street Journal declares is "not to be missed by anyone who cares about modern art".

The exhibition at MOMA’s temporary home in Long Island City, follows a dazzling success at the Tate Modern in London and the National Gallery in Paris. A London newspaper reported that during its final weekend…. in order to accommodate the crowds, the Tate kept its doors open for 36 straight hours! This major retrospective of modernist masters Matisse and Picasso, opening February 13th, will feature 140 paintings, sketches and sculptures in its only American presentation.

The works in this exhibition trace the close but competitive friendship between Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse from 1906 until Matisse’s death in 1954. Some of the rarely seen paintings have come from The Hermitage in St. Petersburg as well as private collections. An audio guide will be available at the museum.

Admission tickets can be ordered, for a $20 contribution to RMAC, by calling 474-6760. A small bus will provide transportation for those who do not wish to drive on their own and can accommodate one wheelchair. At the MOMA Café, beverages and light refreshments will be available.
