Thanks For Blood Drive

Thanks For Blood Drive

Dear Editor;

Once again, the people of Rockaway have shown how strong, valiant and generous they are. On Sunday, January 13, we held the 4th Annual Blood Drive in memory of my husband, Walter J. Blum. My children worked very hard to get the drive organized and I am so very proud of them. Their work was not in vain, the response from the community was magnificent. In the course of approximately five hours, 126 units of blood were donated. Aside from that, the people from Long Island Blood Services, commented on how patient and how nice the people were who came to give blood. This of course came as no surprise to us.

The family and I want everyone to know how much we appreciate the support the community gives to this commitment we have made in honor of Walter. He started giving blood the day he was eligible and never wavered until the time came when he could no longer do so, and he would be so pleased to know that his family, friends and the community have taken up where he had to leave.

We would like to acknowledge thanks to Monsignor Martin Geraghty and Dorothy Brenna, for coordinating the space at the School Auditorium and to Eric McManus at Jameson's for his continued support.

So thank you all and may God bless you all and bestow on you His choicest blessings in the New Year.
