G-Man Mugged Him?

G-Man Mugged Him?

Dear Editor;

The G-Man's response to my phoned-in complaint about his in print mugging of myself and environmental issues (see G-Man column of December 28, 2002) was for me to lighten up and shut up.

What kind of "anger management" his approach represents, and those he represents might be examined to avoid emulation by small conscience minds. He has no pass to be so mean spirited towards me. Let him stick to the issues and evaluate them in print. Would he deride the Eco-watchers and leadership, silent on the issues he also derided? (To my knowledge).

Furthermore, would he deride the Natural Resources Protective Association of Staten Island that has recognized the importance of improved mosquito control linked to wetlands restoration (as at Dubos Point and given Staten Island mosquito problems at many wetland sites)? Would there be more derision for opposing the dispersal of toxic dredge spoils to Jamaica Bay and other parts of the NYNJ Harbor Estuary? NRPAS has led the charge in opposition for Bay dumping proposals.

Cindy Zipf of Clean Ocean Action (linked to the American Littoral Society, Don Riepe, leader and also recently appointed Bay Guardian) has also been personally derided at G-Man level (as witnessed) but not in print in any Harbor Estuary program literature. The coalition she represents is opposed to all use of the toxic dredge spoils until this material is decontaminated- not just dumped because it's cheaper the greater the volume and it's Norton Basin/Far Rockaway and so an easy target.

The technology is there and the food chain (worm to fishes to people) should be protected. Would the G-Man deride her or Don Riepe? Say what is Don's approach to toxic dredge spoils in pits and bulldozers scraping off habitat (topsoil and living vegetation) from the green spaces of the renewal area or other sites.

The Wave shouldn't print this angry, personal attack style and stick to the issues. And if a column is edited and so reads incoherently it should not be printed without my consent because it's hurtful too (see December 28 Sprayview).

Thank you for your kind attention and concern.
