Children Pass By Daily

Children Pass By Daily

Dear Editor;

As a concerned parent, grandparent and resident of Belle Harbor I am opposed to placing a memorial at the site of the plane crash here in my neighborhood. We, here in Rockaway are also mourning like the families that lost loved ones that tragic day of 11/12.

My grandchildren(6,5,3) pass the site almost every day. They will never forget the horrors of that day, as well as their parents. They (my children and grandchildren) heard the explosion, saw the flames and smoke. My grandchildren still talk about how their father ran to the
crash site to assist the victims and how he returned asking their mother for sheets to cover the many bodies lying in the street and yards. The oldest boy has asked them constantly "Do we have to save our sheets incase there is another plane crash".

My family needs closure, not a daily reminder of that horrific day. We do not need a permanent fixture reminding them of what has happened here.

Others mean well, I understand that, but they will come here (to Rockaway) mourn, pray, then go back home to their everyday activities until there next visit. They and their children will not have to view a permanent reminder in their neighborhood of that tragic day as our families will.

Many planes have gone down through out this city. As horrible as they are, have there been memorials placed at all these locations? A memorial at the site (Bch.131 St.), I believe will not only haunt my family but also those of my neighbors who have not only lost loved ones
but also there homes since 9/11 and 11/12.
