Dearly Missed

Michael J. Broderick, born in Brooklyn, was a life long resident of the Rockaway community who died on December 28, 2002.

Michael worshipped at St. Thomas More Church and was well known in the community.

He is preceded in death by his brothers, John and Patrick Broderick; and sister, Nancy E. Broderick.

He is survived by his brother, William Broderick; and sisters, Mary Brosnan and Alice Clarke.

Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor, Inc. was held at St. Charles Cemetery.

Michael Gallagher
Volunteer,
Peninsula Hospital Center

Michael Gallagher, born in New York City, was a resident of Rockaway Park for 54 years. He passed away on December 27, 2002.

Michael worshipped at St. Francis de Sales Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus; the Golden Age/Seabreeze Seniors Club at St. Francis de Sales; and a volunteer at Peninsula Hospital Center.

He is survived by his wife, Nora (nee Cotter) Gallagher; daughters, Patricia Chevelier, Eileen, Genevieve and Rosemary Gallagher; sons, Chris, James, Michael, and Thomas Gallagher; daughters-in-law, Patricia and Lanette; grandchildren, Tatum, Casey, Shanon, Sean, Thomas, James, Kendall and Kelly; and great-grandchildren, Isiah and Honesty.

Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor, Inc. was held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

James Gribben
Ironworker - Local 361

James Gribben, born in New York City, was a 50-year resident of Rockaway Park who died on December 25, 2002.

James worshipped at St. Camillus Church and was employed as an ironworker with Local 361. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Brenda Gribben.

He is survived by his wife, Amelia (nee Grillo) Gribben; sons, Christopher, Kevin, Louis and Sean Gribben, Kenneth Baio, Ronald Stein and James and Jason Zizza; daughters, Jeanine and Jessica Zizza; and 15 grandchildren.

Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor, Inc. was held at St. Charles Cemetery.

Catherine P. Murphy
Administrative Assistant,
St. John's Home

Catherine P. Murphy, born in New York City, was a resident of Rockaway Park for 42 years. She died on January 1, 2003.

Catherine worshipped at St. Genevieve Church and worked as an Administrative Assistant at the St. John's Home.

She is preceded in death by her son, Daniel Murphy.

She is survived by her daughters, Annmarie Flood and Margaret Kelly; sons, Joseph, Kevin and Robert Murphy; and seven grandchildren.

Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor, Inc, was held at Long Island National Cemetery.

Alfred O'Brien
"Moose"

Alfred O'Brien, born in the Bronx, was a long time resident of Rockaway Beach who passed away on January 4, 2003.

Many in the community affectionately knew Alfred as "Moose", and he had a long-standing relationship with many firefighters from the Rockaway area. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War.

Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor, Inc. was held at Calverton National Cemetery.

Veronica Sweeney
Homemaker

Veronica Tinker (nee Waters) Sweeney, born in Brooklyn, was a 65-year resident of Rockaway Point who died on December 27, 2002.

Veronica worshipped at St. Genevieve Church and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Mayor's Committee; the Roxbury Catholic Club; and the Golden Age Club.

She is preceded in death by her husband, John Sweeney; and daughters, Eileen Simone and Rita Fox.

She is survived by her children, Joan and Larry Fitzgerald, John Sweeney, Regina Monahan, and Tom and Eileen Leavens; sister, Regina Barile; brother, Charles Waters; brother-in-law, Jack Barile; and sister-in-law, Marge Waters; 12 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.

Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor, Inc. was held at St. Johns Cemetery.
