Wave Is Divisive

Wave Is Divisive

Your January 4 "Getting Together" editorial rightfully challenges us to find a unified voice for Rockaway in 2003. In this spirit, I challenge the leaders of The Wave to look themselves in the mirror and recognize how your paper has contributed to the divisions in our community.

In the past, The Wave has too often shown itself to be caught up in battles of personality and personal politics, choosing pettiness and personal attacks over the high road. Indeed, it is ironic you cite the divisions between the two Rockaway Park associations since The Wave was a divisive, partisan player in the splitting of the Rockaway Park Association.

The Wave is Rockaway's newspaper. That puts your team in a position of opportunity and responsibility. You can be a beacon of unity without sacrificing journalistic responsibility. You can be a conduit of communication and understanding between our communities. I hope you can rise to the challenge you have placed before the rest of us lest the same sentiments be in our collective resolutions for 2004.
