Parade Activity Warms Up

Parade Activity Warms Up

Dear Editor;

On behalf of the Queens County St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee, I would like to wish you all a Happy New Year. 2003 brings our twenty-eighth annual salute to the patron Saint of Ireland, St. Patrick.

The parade this year will be as usual on the first Saturday in March, which is March 1.

We are honored this year to have as Grand Marshals, James Cahill, international representative, United Association Steamfitters/Plumbers of America; and Treasa Smyth, well-known Irish radio personality and activist.

Our honorary Grand Marshals are Martin Kelly, NY State Chairman A.O.H. and Frances Abbraciemento, followed by representatives from our community as Deputy Grand Marshals: Jimmy Kelly, John Hennessy, Edward O'Grady, Nadia Murphy, Mary O'Rourke, Barney Cassidy, Tom Hughes, Patrick Russell, Al Stathis, Al Catanese.

Our parade has been made possible by the strong support of the businesses and local community support.

Our two parade fundraisers are as follows:

1. Hearts & Shamrock Dance at St. Camillus Springman Hall on Sunday, January 19, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tickets cost $35 each, and include a full corned beef and cabbage dinner, tea, coffee, soda, draft beer, BYOB, Black Velvet Band.

2. Our main installation gala dance is at Antun's of Queens on Saturday, February 15, from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m., and dinner and dancing from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m, featuring Black Velvet Band.

Come out and support your parade at these fundraising events. It is only by your strong support that our parade has been such a success. Tickets are available from Irish Circle, Blackwater Tavern, Kerry Hills Pub, Beach Club, West End Realty, or call Peggy at 634-0886.

MICHAEL A. BENN
PARADE PRESIDENT
