Editorial Clinches It!

Editorial Clinches It!

Dear Editor;

Your editorial "Boyle's Wave of Success" clinches it: Kevin Boyle is the writer to disclose the story of the Dayton seaside property tax manipulation.

In April1996, after the Daily News published an apparent city handout on "tax deadbeat" Dayton Seaside, Kevin wrote an article on the Dayton Seaside problem, "Tax Mess," The Wave aptly noted in one editorial, that did something no other newspaper or TV news outlet did, on Dayton Seaside- look for the facts of the matter. The Wave was, throughout, the only paper in the land, willing to look into the Dayton Seaside facts.

The Dayton Seaside Inside Story would shed light, I believe, how government is run by a "political establishment" expects that the buildings will be lost in bankruptcy. I was told that in November 1999, and that is what happened two years later.

But also, the Dayton Seaside story would show how the so-called mainstream media cooperates with the political establishment wants printed, by distorting stories the establishment wants distorted, and by not reporting stories the establishment does not want reported.

In March 1997, Borough President Shulman sent a letter to the former mayor urging him to act on the Dayton Seaside taxes. Six weeks later, on a WCBS call-in program, the former mayor denied any knowledge of Dayton Seaside. Either he would not read mail from Ms. Shulman, or he was somewhat flexible with he truth. But this was never considered, as the Dayton Seaside ordeal ended just the way the establishment wanted. Indeed, Kevin Boyle is the person to strike a blow for our Constitution, and a responsible media, by writing the Dayton Seaside Story: a story that must be told if we are true to our legacy of liberty.
