Tree Recycling In Rockaway Saturday

Tree Recycling In Rockaway Saturday

The New York City Department of Parks and Recreation has admitted that it made a mistake by not placing a Christmas tree recycling site on the Rockaway peninsula. Christmas trees can now be brought for recycling to Beach 64 Street and the Boardwalk this Saturday, January 11.

A spokesperson for the department told The Wave on Wednesday that there would be a dumpster at that site all day on Saturday for the disposal of tress. That dumpster would then be taken to another site for the actual recycling of the trees.

According to one report, City Councilman Joe Addabbo, who is the chair of the council’s Parks Committee, asked Queens Parks commissioner Rich Murphy why there was not a site scheduled for Rockaway.

Murphy told him that there was a Rockaway site scheduled, but that it was "removed from the list by mistake."

This will be the last chance for Rockaway residents to provide recycling for their Christmas trees.
