It was with great relief to find the Breezy Point Drug Awareness program is still being held every Tuesday evening. We have been late in starting this, but thank God we are now taking an active part in bringing to our youth the dangers and pitfalls of drug abuse. Lets keep our Rockaway neighborhoods clean of this menace and clear the way for safe years for our children.

While on the subject of artists, 42 Cipriani’s welcomed the many, many loyal supporters of Americans for the Arts, National Arts Awards. It was a fabulous black tie gala filled with celebrity members to applaud the 2002 winners of National Leadership in the arts. Mayor Bloomberg was present to address this outstanding audience, who honored David Rockefeller, Alberto Vilar, Pinchas Zukerman, Cindy Sherman, Natalie Portmen, BRAVO, the film and arts network and Institute of Museum and Library Services. Honorary Chairman, First Lady, Libby Pataki, Mrs. Randolph Herst, Chairman, Robert Lynch, President and CEO, Milling through the crowds I caught glimpses of Silvia Styles, Helen Gurley Brown, Beverly Sills, past recipient, and many, many others. Americans for the Arts offers more than 200 publications available for purchase. Books and tool kits of topics such as arts education, community development and management. Each year they survey local arts agencies in all 50 largest cities and nearly 70 communities. The entire local arts agency field is surveyed every three years and works are offered for purchase through Americans for Art publications. Members of the Rockaway Artist Alliance should align themselves with American for Arts and attend this star studded award dinner next year. Who knows? Maybe one of the artists from the Rockaway Artist Alliance may be a winner someday. This gala event will be seen early January 2003 on BRAVO.
WICI is Women in Communication, Inc. an organization that brings together a sisterhood of women in the communicating business or those who wish to find work in that field and who wish to get connected with those who can help them climb that corporate ladder. It was a stimulating meeting held at the Roosevelt Hotel where I met a number of giving women who have shared their success with inspiring others who seek their advice. Stephan Stokes Oliver, author of "Seven Soulful Secrets" was the guest speaker, a warm humane and inspiring woman, who explained success secrets on advice to achieving your goals without reaching the point of exhaustion. A soul seeking book which can benefit our women today in business. And, perhaps many men. If you are interested in becoming a member of Women in Communication who have only your interests at hear by all means contact them.
Indonesia, according to our State Department is not, unfortunately, the place in which to travel at this time. However, the Consul General of Indonesia invited travel agents and press to a beautiful reception at the Indonesia Consulate. A video was shown of certain parts of Indonesia (it consists of many, many islands, Bali geing the most beautiful ) . It is a fascinating country and most certainly idealistic for tourism. A perfect spot for your next vacation. When our government gives the clearance this is one place you should visit.
And, I will be one of the first to promote it.
Have you heard of the Swiss Vodka, Svedka? Claims have been made that it is as good as a Swedish massage. Now, that is a comparison. I found this smooth and sensuous vodka aat a wine tasting at Cipriani where I also came across a delicious wine, a 1999 Contour from Weinstock cellars. You might wish to try them.
Wings over Wall Street, a Gala fund raiser for the dread disease, ALS, which condemns a patient to three to five years of life once diagnosed was held at the Marriott Marquis this week and was hosted by Billy Baldwin. This event was mentioned in my column a few months back and I do hope some of you were able to attend. It was jammed with people who enjoyed the food and libation and the fun of bidding at the silent and live auction. Their goal was to reach one million to directly benefit research teams of Hiroshi Mitsumoto, MD of the Eleanor and Lou Gerig, MDA/ALS Center at Columbia University, and Jeffrey Rubinstein, MD of the Robert Packard Center for ALS Research at John Hopkins. For their next event contact Amanda Silverman , PMK/HBH..
